The World Land Trust is governed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom.

Data protection

The information you give us is treated in confidence and stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. Information collected is never sold, traded or rented to other organisations or disclosed to persons outside the Trust other than to those who carry out work on our behalf, such as processing online donations.

The following information is provided in this privacy policy statement:

What site visitor information does the World Land Trust collect?

Information collected by our web server

The World Land Trust’s web server does not automatically collect or recognise information about individual site visitors such as domain or email address information. Anonymous information, such as the number of site visitors in a specified period, is collected for statistical purposes, but this cannot be used to identify an individual user. If you make an online donation to the Trust, a donation ID reference code is generated by our donation system. This is the only piece of information which is retained by us, in order to track how and when donations have been made (see cookie section, below, for details). This donation code also allows us to make reference to any potentially fraudulent donations.

Information we collect

The World Land Trust only collects information that is knowingly and voluntarily given, such as donor contact details, survey information and/or site registrations.

Cookies

A cookie is a file created by a website to store information on the site visitors computer, such as personally identifiable information or preferences specified by the site visitor.

The World Land Trust uses pixels, or transparent GIF files, to help manage online advertising. These GIF files are provided by our ad management partner, TIME Tracking & ROI. These files enable TIME to recognize a unique cookie on your Web browser, which in turn enables us to learn which advertisements bring users to our website. The cookie is placed by us, or by another advertiser who works with TIME. The information that we collect and share is anonymous and not personally identifiable. It does not contain your name, address, telephone number, or email address. For more information about TIME, including information about how to opt out of these technologies email help@timecom.co.uk.

In addition to cookies, if you donate online, the information you submit while you are on the WLT site will be temporarily retained. This information will be deleted when your user session ends, that is when you leave our site, or after 20 minutes should you leave your browser window open. If you have donated via one of our affiliate partners we will retain only the donation ID code and the amount donated for the purposes of communication with our affiliate partners. This information can not be used to track individual details by third parties.

How is the collected information used?

The information we collect is used to communicate with our supporters, gift recipients and enquirers, to improve the content of our website and to contact site visitors for marketing purposes.

Communications with supporters

If you make a donation online you can opt to receive WLT News three times a year by post; you can also register on our website (www.worldlandtrust.org) to receive eBulletins sent out electronically approximately every six weeks. These publications aim to keep our supporters up-to-date with the Trust’s work, and let you know how your funds have been used. Very occasionally we may send out new information on projects which we consider to be of utmost urgency and from time to time you may also receive information on upcoming events or supporter questionnaires.

Communications by email

If you supply us with your email address online you may receive occasional supporter questionnaires from us. If you do not want to receive emails from us in the future, please let us know by contacting us using the details above, or by submitting the feedback form on the World Land Trust website.

Communications by post

If you supply us with your postal address online you may receive occasional mailings from us with information on new projects or upcoming events. If you do not wish to receive such mailings, please let us know by contacting us using the details above, or by submitting the feedback form on the World Land Trust website.

Communications by telephone

Persons who supply us with their telephone numbers online will only receive telephone contact from us should there be any queries relating to the donation or order. Telephone numbers are never passed on to a third party.

Other uses of visitor information

From time to time, we may use donor information for new, unanticipated purposes not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. If our information practices change at some time in the future we will post the policy changes to our websites to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check back at our website periodically.

How can I access the information maintained about me?

Upon request we will provide site visitors with access to financial information (e.g., credit card account information) that we maintain about them, unique identifier information (e.g., customer number or password) that we maintain about them, transaction information (e.g., dates on which customers made donations or purchases, amounts and types of purchases) that we maintain about them, contact information (e.g., name, address, phone number) that we maintain about them and a description of information that we maintain about them. Note that for donations made online, we do not store or collect credit card details.

Site visitors can access this information, and have it corrected if necessary, by contacting us using the details above, or by submitting the feedback form on the World Land Trust website.

How secure is the information collected and stored by the WLT?

Collection of information

When we transfer and receive financial information, we use a secure server. See our web page on Secure Donations for more details. Our feedback form and any emails sent to the Trust are transferred via a standard, non-encrypted server, and could potentially be read by a third party. We therefore ask you not to send credit card details or other sensitive information in this way.

Storage of information

We have appropriate security measures in place in our physical facilities to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of information that we have collected from you at our site.

What if I have a question or complaint?

If you have a query about the Trust’s Privacy Policy, or feel that this site is not following the stated policy, you may email, call or write to us using the details above, or contact us by submitting the feedback form on the World Land Trust website.
